Doug Vining Flying taxi vision for commuters

British developers Avcen say Jetpods would enable quick, quiet and cheap travel to and from major cities.

The futuristic machines will undergo proof-of-concept flight tests in 2006 and could be ready for action by 2010.

Wolfgang Grulke Finally something happens...

Read about the Jetpod proposals....not quite there yet but definitely on the right track!

Wolfgang Grulke The dilemmas of the airline industry...

Brilliant and detailed assessment of the challenges ahead. However it totally seems to exclude the 'personal planes' scenario.

Wolfgang Grulke We used to talk about 'Flying Cars'...

...well it looks like it's time again, according to this report in New Scientist.
It reminds me of a MindBullet we published in 2004 about how personal planes would mean the end of airlines, airports and all the other things that travellers hate - see the link at right - perhaps slowly coming about?

Anton Musgrave Flying Cars...YES...and we told you so years ago...in 2004!

The world of personal transport is about to change for the lucky few...and Avis will never be the same again! So from blind men driving Google cars to flying cars, its all about to change for an age old industry. And the shifts are not being driven by GM or Ford!

Doug Vining Flying Cars...YES...and we told you so years ago...in 2004!

Although the Terrafugia is more of a light airplane that can move around on the road and use ordinary gasoline than a flying car in my estimation, it does qualify as the first commercial car/plane hybrid. The other big change is the steady move towards electric vehicles, although still in its infancy.

One day we might well be able to rent a flying car from Avis, and my guess is that it will run on electricity on the ground and normal fuel when flying, and will drive and fly itself. Think of a Google car combined with a drone!

Anton Musgrave No more road accidents...ever?

With new driverless cars around the corner, one imagines safe road travel for everyone, forever. The impact on economies, insurance and transport in general will be huge. The next step will be pilotless airplanes...for individual travel!

Wolfgang Grulke No more road accidents...ever?

This is exactly the scenario that our 2004 MindBullet described - HUMAN DRIVERS BANNED FROM ALL HIGHWAYS: "We can save a million lives a year" says Automobile Association

Anton Musgrave Learning from nature

As humans seek answers to the world's big issues, fascinating lessons from nature are waiting to be discovered! Peter Diamandis' recent book 'Abundance' suggests that we have access to all the answers we need to solve these big issues, right now...provided we look in the right places and then connect what may seem to be disconnected dots, data points or insights. Perhaps we need to accelerate our search for answers that are all around us, every day, in nature.

New taxi service via an App surprises us all with its possible valuation... North of USD15 billion! This must really annoy many old Industrial Age CEO's.
