Doug Vining A future cure for flab

It seems we are getting closer to the scenario where we can forego exercise in favour of popping pills, and still stay healthy.

As we increase our understanding of genes, hormones and cellular interactions, I'm fairly confident that we will be able mitigate lifestyle problems with biotech products, and ultimately manipulate our own evolution, as has been suggested before in these pages.

What do you think? Is that a positive scenario, or the road to hell?

Doug Vining Take an exercise pill

Too busy or unable to exercise regularly. Now that researchers have fully mapped the molecular reactions to exercise, it should be possible to develop drugs that give all the benefits of exercise - without moving a muscle.
