Doug Vining

Technology and business Futurist, entrepreneur, MindBullets Editor.

Doug Vining has 30 years business experience and three business degrees, including an MBA from Wits Business School.

Doug is an experienced technology and strategy consultant, with a particular emphasis on leveraging internet technologies to grow customer and business networks. His abiding fascination with emerging technology of all types, from nanotech and biotech to 3D printing and clean energy, is only eclipsed by his firm conviction that communication technology is behind the explosive growth in knowledge on all fronts in recent decades.

"The ability of humans to learn from others by communicating ideas is what sets us apart as a species and compounds the effect of being massively interconnected, worldwide. Creativity and innovation do not flourish in a vacuum."

With a rich career history from advertising to corporate consulting, including several spells as an entrepreneur and working for major technology companies like IBM, Doug has seen many innovations come and go. He believes that innovation should have real commercial applications, and that many of the world's problems can be solved with technology.

"We don't know what the solution to global issues like climate change and energy will be, because it hasn't been invented or discovered yet." But one of his favourite quotes is: "Those who say it can't be done shouldn't interrupt those who are busy doing it!"

Doug is regularly called upon to evaluate entrepreneurial business plans, and has worked with venture capital firms and business schools, particularly when hi-tech ideas are on the table.

Doug is chief technology adviser to the FutureWorld Global Think Tank and is the Editor of MindBullets: News from the Future.

"It's the End of the World - as we knew it. We have to learn how to survive - and succeed - in this new mobile, connected world of the future. It's already here!"
