Yes, even retail is being shaped by data and algorithms. Is that a good thing? Yes and no. When data confines us to a grey world of ever-repeated relevance, self-fulfilling recommendations and predictable patterns of behaviour, then perhaps it has become a disease. For which we obviously need an 'analogue bullet'.
