Alternative energy grids may just be possible

The old argument supporting fossil fuel energy sources as the only sources capable of providing base load energy needs may just be changing slowly but surely. Alternative energy sources suffer from lack of grid management capability as much as from smaller generation capability. Now, slowly at least, fragmented and dispersed sources of renewable energy may be accommodated in smart grids with the aid of new grid management technologies. This will herald a new energy era perhaps? The questions is, will the old coal energy players 'get it' or not?
