The future death of Big Oil

This excellent analysis of how exponential technologies can flip an industry is well worth a read. The end of internal combustion engines spells the end of demand for gasoline. What isn't discussed in this article is that the sudden change will reverse the declining demand for electricity, but as we've discussed elsewhere, solar power is well positioned to take up the slack. Perhaps the best interim strategy for Big Oil is to transition into mainly natural gas - for power generation - and solar.

One wonders if the OPEC states will ban electric cars, and if this analysis extends beyond the United States. However one looks at it, the writing is on the wall...
